Interruptions to Streaming relay

Postby lopeti » 01 Jul 2014 02:04

I have vlc running on a remote site to pick up our streaming audio for local rebroadcast

it runs with
vlc http://addressofourstream.ogg --http-reconnect
It has a 2m cable to a switch connected to fibre; no problem with speed here.
On the bench disconnecting the network and reconnecting it again has vlc reconnecting and replaying the stream.
A script keeps vlc running and if it gets switched on the script has it back again in a flash.

The stream originates at our studio [darkice icecast] and feeds via fibre to a streaming server [icecast] also running on fibre in and out.

Our problem:

if there is an interruption to the stream from our studio [someone kicks the power plug out] the stream origination comes back up, the distribution server reconnects, but the remote vlc stays connected to the now silent stream.

We have a radio tuned to the relay which plugs in to the remote computer which generates a lo fi monitor feed but this is not monitored 24/7.

Is there an audio detect switch in vlc?

Any other suggestions?
