Scrobbling issues

Postby CP1832 » 11 Jun 2014 19:04

Hi guys:

Since yesterday, I'm unable to scrobble to last.fm. This is the debug message I'm getting. The username and password are correct (double checked that) and also checked that I'm using the correct scrobbling url (post.audioscrobbler.com). Does anyone know why are these connections timing out? As a side note, I was able to scrobble correctly from the official last.fm scrobbler.

I've been having the same problem since sometime yesterday or the day before, with VLC 2.1.4 under OS X 10.9.3. Haven't understood (despite searching the forum and the web) how to get "debug logging" to give me any results to share: used VLC>Add interface>Debug logging, but not finding any extra messages or log files. But scrobbling has definitely stopped working, despite no changes in settings or last.fm password, and scrobbling from other sources (iTunes, Grooveshark) continuing to work. Help!

Okay, sorry: figured out the debugging interface. Same timeouts problem, no idea why. Anybody?

Same here, this was most likely a last.fm server issue that was solved...

Seems likely to be true, although worth noting that other applications were scrobbling just fine in the same time period.

That's surely because other applications must be using scrobbling protocol 2.0, while VLC uses scrobbling protocol 1.2.1, which seems to use different servers. Scrobbling 2.0 uses http://ws.audioscrobbler.com, while scrobbling 1.2.1 uses http://post.audioscrobbler.com.

THANK YOU, CP1832. It's been a lot of effort to find out what the problem is. Now, I see that the old/secondary scrobble-server's address is embedded in ...\VLC\plugins\misc\libaudioscrobbler_plugin.dll. Is there a current dll/plugin to be had?

As far as I know, no, there isn't a different plugin. But notice that the problem is now solved and scrobbling is working flawlessly.

Why isn't VLC upgraded to use scrobbling 2.0?

Last.fm says the old protocol is depreciated, and it shows - VLC for me has never reliably scrobbled anything.

I'm having trouble scrobbling in 2.1.5 on Windows 8.1. In the debug window the audioscrobbler isn't even mentioned, like it doesn't even start. I've tried installing 2.0.5 but that didn't resolve the problem. Anyone knows what's the problem?
