Is it possible to change the video overlay color?

I would like to change the video overlay color something different than black, for example gray. Because I would like to determine the crop values of some videos. I mean to crop a few pixels from the edges. The cropped colour of the edges is also black so I have to change the video overlay colour to be able to distinguish them.
