VLC Media Player has stopped working.....2.1.4

Hello, all of a sudden I cannot play my videos.
I am running WIn 8.1.
When I try to open a file, I get the pop VLC media player has quit , then the "windows is searching for a solution" pop up appears.
This happened all of a sudden.
I do let some people use my computer and may have done something.
Any help is apreciated.

Also, in my running programs area (lower right hand corner) it shows 3 to 4 VLC Cones open. When I hit the close program button, they disappear one by one slowly.
