is VLC able to play from specific file position?

hi,
i have a HUGE file which contains some video data (it is a hard disc image file).
i know EXACTLY the position in this image file, where the video data is saved and i know EXACTLY what codec is used.

is it possible to start VC with a parameter, which specifies the position to read from? (when i try to open the image file directly, nothing happens, because there are some gigabytes waste data before the video in the iamge file and vlc does not recognize my video).
