audio is enabled and the audio module device number is set correctly. Oh and ....I realise that you aren't obliged to remedy this fault but it would be rather nice if you did! (cos i don't think M-Audio will somehow and Apple don't care)

Same problem here!
No AC3 output anymore (core audio error)
DVDs are not the problem because Apples DVD Player still works fine but I would like to have AC3 output back with my DivX AVIs...
...and there is another problem I now have - I have lots of small (15MB) DivX AVIs with standard MP3 stereo sound that are all exactly the same (according to the info window) but about 80% of them don't play with sound in VLC !?!(Quicktime and MPlayerOSX do play the sound)

I have the following setup:
G4/1.4GHz
OS 10.3.2
Quicktime 6.5
M-Audio Revolution 7.1 (1.2.9 drivers - may those be the problem?)
VLC 7


(If I boot into 10.2.8 with Quicktime 6.2(?) all my problems mentioned above are gone!!!!)

I forgot to mention that the Revolution is connected via coaxial to a Harman digital reciever.....I didn't test analog output yet because I don't have cables for analog 5.1 output, so I don't know if this would help!

Has this problem been resolved? My G5 with 10.3 seems to play the same file without problem one day and with core audio failure the other day... Quite annoying.

Correct. but nobody knows what the 'correct' way to do this is.
So every time apple changes a little tiny thing, VLC breaks.

Hi DJ,
I downloaded the Sonica update.
I am running OSX10.3.2 on a G4 PowerMac 933 MHz.
I ran the M-Audio Sonica 1.0.3f1 update.
I am also running VLC 0.7.0, the official release.

Results:

Still get core audio error. (coreaudio: failed to set buffer size: [nope])
VLC does not play through the Sonica in either Digital A/52 or Stereo PCM. In A/52 the output is zero, no output, no sound. In Stereo PCM the output is screaming noise as it has been since the 10.3 release.

The Sonica works with Apple DVD player but only as Stereo PCM, no Dolby output.

Please let me know if you would like any additional information.

I have the same results, except the PCM audio. It workes for me if I tell VLC to open normal audio, when I selecht the audio device at first I must select directly PCM. If I select prior to that the AC3 audio, and then I switch to PCM, then I hear the terrible noise.

OK I updated teh Sonica with the latest update and firmware update now teh VLC Sonica Edition does not play AC3 anymore, I am tempted to reinstall the old firmware and see if VLC Sonica Edition will play AC3 again. This is so frustrating, I have the tools I just need the software

DJ the old VLC Sonica Edition works with AC3 is there anyway you can use the audio module from that app and plug it into the new v7 VLC? So we can get the extra features that v7 has?

hahahaha guess what I just reinstalled the old Sonica driver and now I have AC3 again under VLC Sonica Edition, the update breaks AC3 output under VLC Sonica Edition, so don't update your Sonica driver folks if you want to keep AC3 going under VLC Sonica Edition, now I just need the special features that v7 VLC has

I am going to report this to Sonica's Department also, like whats the point of having Sonica USB Device if you can't play AC3 in OSX without proper software right. I'll tell em that

I am on OSX 10.3.2 most recent update. I have PowerMac G4 Dual 500, the speakers and decoder I am using is the Creative DTT3500 Digital Theatre speakers 5.1, and the Sonica USB of course.

I am using the 1.1 version Sonica Driver, its the older one, you can get it here, (the new update seems to mess up AC3 under the "VLC Sonica Edition Player")

To get AC3 to work you need to use the VLC Sonica Edition app, it comes on your Sonica Driver CD. Its on the web somewhere to.

Well, then I give up. Since the audio hasn't worked in quite sometime, I haven't been able to use this shareware program. I would even be willing to pay for it if it worked.

However, everyone should understand that this is a university piece of software, not intended for primetime. There is no support. We should not feel bad that it will never work again. I am just going to forget about it completely and if anyone asks me about it, I will just have to say it was nice for a while, but now it is dysfunctional.

Quite frankly, I am not sure why the people at videolan are even pursueing this project any longer if you don't get audio, why bother? I don't know if too many people who like to watch movies without sound.

Because only 5% of the mac users are affected and the mac users are only making up 10% of the total users. So only very few users are affected by this. That doesn't make it a small issue and it doesn't make it unimportant either.

As I said before. The developers don't own any of the devices that show this behaviour because they are very poor students that don't have the money to buy that stuff.

It makes it kinda hard to fix. Like writing an essay without knowing what the subject is. I'm very sorry, we are trying to fix it, but this is something Apple does not provide documentation on.

Well, for me VLC 52-test1 with Jaguar 10.2.8 plays DivX with AC3 5.1 ok with Sonica Theater but no success with Panther 10.3.2.
