Subtitles not visible if I seek to after when it appears

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Subtitles not visible if I seek to after when it appears

Postby Ariane » 10 Feb 2014 23:57

VLC version: 2.1.3 Rincewind
OS: Windows 8.1 Professional
File: .mkv video with soft-subtitles included in the file

I've been meaning to ask this... Let's say a character from my favourite subtitled anime starts to say a sentence at 11:28 in the video, which also corresponds to the moment the subtitle appears, and that sentence ends at 11:37, when the subtitle disappears.

Then let's say that at 11:34, there's a something I misread and so I go back to 11:30 from 11:40 where the video was now at, using my keyboard arrow keys. Well, the subtitle for the sentence in question won't be there. For it to show up, I'll need to start playing the video from before 11:28. Then it will appear normally.

So the question is, is this behavious normal? Expected? Can it be changed with some setting that would enable "subtitle memory"?

While this is certainly no major issue, for sure it's a little annoying.

Oh, also, I don't know if this issue is specific to Windows or not. So I put it here.

Yes, this is a known bug. Not sure if someone put it correctly on our http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ bugtracker

Maybe.

This might be it, but as a foreigner I'm unsure of what "seek" means precisely.
