VLC Menu Playback>Title Output Questions

Postby GaryG45 » 24 Dec 2013 18:29

Hi,
I'm new to VLC and couldn't find what I was looking for in the documentation. I've created DVDs and ISO files using VideoStudio X5 Pro. When I use VLC to play the ISO file of a video composed of two clips and go to menu option Playback>Title, the dropdown shows the following:
DVD Menu
Title 1 [8:01]
Title 2 [25:44]

When I created the ISO with VideoStudio, I put titles on the clips in the DVD menu. Where does the Title 1 and Title 2 come from in the dropdown? When I play the DVD on my Sony Blu-ray model BDP-S780 and hit stop while playing a clip, the Sony menu shows a disc with two boxes to the right. To the right of the top box is Title 1 and to the right of the bottom box is Title 2. It appears that VLC and my Blu-ray player get the information from the same place. Are there field names for the location and is it editable? Thanks in advance for your help.

Gary

I've researched the folders and files on DVDs, and I think I've found an answer to my questions. There is a VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS folder. The IFO file contains many data structures related to the DVD, and one structure is the VMG_PTT_SRPT, Video Manager Title Play Map Table. This structure contains the number of titles on the DVD followed by 12 bytes of data for each title. I couldn't find a data structure related to the titles that could contain the name of the movie on the DVD. Therefore I believe VLC is reading this data structure and reporting back the number of titles.
