Lost DTS Audio after installing Ver. 2.1.1

Postby billyretro » 08 Dec 2013 20:14

Help! I have been using VLC for at least a year now, with no problems whatsoever. My downloads always have DTS audio. However, since I updated to Ver. 2.1.1, I have lost my DTS audio, as well as any surround audio. The only thing that has changed is the update to VLC Version 2.1.1. In the previous versions of VLC, under the audio settings, was the ability to choose multiple audio options (including the one I used regularly, which I can't remember). Now, the only option for Audio is Disable or DTS. When I select DTS, my Pioneer Elite receiver will only give me Stereo output. I have played the downloads on a friend's computer and the surround info is indeed there, but VLC doesn't seem to let me access it.
I'm very frustrated....can anyone help?
Thanks,
Bill

Just to clarify, under the old VLC audio settings, I could choose 'A/52 over S/PDIF' as my audio output, and that gave me DTS Surround through my HDMI cable to my A/V Receiver. That setting is not available in Ver. 2.1.1

Howdy,

Oh good, glad I'm not the only one.
Spent a good couple of hours trying to locate why this was occurring.

No result as yet.

A file of 8 gig?
It comes from a AVCHD DVD9 made by a friend from the original BR.
Maybe you can do something whit the info out the header:
core 120 r2120 0c7dab9 - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec - Copyleft 200ÊzlG3-2011 - http://www.videolan.org/x264.html - options: cabac=1 ref=3 deblock=1:0:0 analyse=0x3:0x113 me=umh subme=7 psy=1 psy_rd=1.00:0.25 mixed_ref=1 me_range=16 chroma_me=1 trellis=1 Ê…ÒG8x8dct=1 cqm=0 deadzone=21,11 fast_pskip=1 chroma_qp_offset=-4 threads=6 sliced_threads=0 slices=4 nr=0 decimate=1 interlaced=0 bluray_compat=1 constrained_intra=0 bframes=3 b_pyramid=Ê‘8G1 b_adapt=1 b_bias=0 direct=3 weightb=1 open_gop=1 weightp=0 keyint=24 keyint_min=2 scenecut=40 intra_refresh=0 rc_lookahead=24 rc=2pass mbtree=1 bitrate=7144 ratetol=1.0 qcomp=0.60 qpÊœžGmin=0 qpmax=69 qpstep=4 cplxblur=20.0 qblur=0.5 vbv_maxrate=18000 vbv_bufsize=18000 nal_hrd=vbr ip_ratio=1.40 aq=1:1.00

Other movies with DTS play wel, so it's not a big deal. But this one was working on the 2.0.8 version.

Upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

"Upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/"
Done, filename is "test_5.m2ts".
I hope it wil help.

with current version (2.1.2/windows) i still had audio issues with dts tracks (over spdiff).
i still had a 2.0.8 in another folder which was the most recently working version

what i did after update when dts still didnt work (choppy sound) is
a>resetting all settings back to original (this gave me back decent sound but just stereo)
b>reactivate the "use spdiff if possible" option.

this worked for me and should for you too :)

To sowhats :
When you say you ' reactivate the "use spdiff if possible" option ' , is this in the 2.0.8 version ?
Because 2.1.2 version has not this option anymore..
