PGS subtitles wrong positioning in VLC 2.1.0

Postby FoxMcCloud » 10 Oct 2013 10:38

Hi all.
Please, since HandBrake version 0.9.9 I am able to encode MKV files WITH muxed PGS subtitles (Blu-Ray subtitles format).
I was using a previous version of VLC (not sure which one, but quite a recent one), and then uninstalled it and installed version 2.1.0.
When I play those new MKV files WITH PGS subtitles everything goes fine UNTIL...
I like to right click on video and use VIDEO => CUT => 16:9, so I can see wider movies or videos in fullscreen.
In the older version of VLC, when I did this the PGS subtitles went a bit vertically stretched... This was a little odd, but it was perfectly possible to read them without major troubles.
In this new version of VLC, when I go to VIDEO => CUT => 16:9, the video plays just OK, but the PGS subtitles get uncentered (to the base-right of the screen). They won't get stretched anymore, but they are out of the center, what really puts some text out of the screen.
I assume (wonder) that the subtitles remain at the same size (the original size) even when I cut the wider video to 16:9. Previously I think that VLC just stretched the subtitles to fulscreen, what worked well.
I would like to ask you, if possible, to take a look at this, if those are the only available options to PGS subtitles then the older way was better, but it is only a simple matter (I think) of cutting the extra width from the left and the right of the subtitles -- ('original width' minus '16:9 recalculated width') / 2 -- and then remove or add transparent space on the top, so they should be at a very comfortable size, fully readable, centered horizontally and at the bottom of the screen.
I use to watch videos with braziliam portuguese subtitles, but I did verify that the same issue occurs when using american english subtitles.
Also, I would like to suggest a tab in the options for adjusting such configurations over Blu-Ray AND DVD subtitles formats (even when encoded on mkv files), with options as the ones I mentioned and others (for example zooming in or out the subtitles, since some people do have vision problems), so the users could easily customize how VLC should manage them for a most comfortable viewing experience.
Thank you very much for your attention. I'll follow this matter, since VLC is a GREAT video player and this would only add even more usefull stuff to it (you know, lots of foreign users really depend on the subtitles, and a few extra features for them would really be that extra 'WOW factor').
