2.1.0 lost WMV3 support

2.1.0 lost WMV3 support

Postby J.L. » 30 Sep 2013 07:31

I have some AVI files with the WMV3 video codec that previously played fine on VLC, but not anymore. The video disappeared after updating 2.0.8 and even 1.1.11 has no such issue.

I'd like to submit the file for analysis as the wiki states, but don't know how to. Please assist in any way you can. Thank you.

Using Windows 7 64-bit, replicated in Windows XP virtual machine. 2.1.0 not available on any stable Linux distros, and no OS X to test, but I doubt this is platform-specific.

Yes, I can reproduce the issue and this is a regression.

Open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

Then you should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with your messages log, a link to a sample file and the link to this thread.

I've attached logs of VLC 2.1.0 and 2.0.8 PortableApps for comparison. Will continue next steps tomorrow.

You can still upload a sample file.

I could, but what Jean-Baptiste Kempf uploaded has the same error messages. So I think it's redundant.
