Stream a DVD to WD Live TV box

Postby victor50 » 21 May 2013 21:11

I posted this before on "VLC stream-output (sout)" but maybe that was the wrong place:

I am trying to figure out a way to stream a movie on DVD to a Western Digital Live TV box. Although it is possible to play a DVD over the network from the box itself the result is bad because the networkcard of the box is only 100Mb. The only way that works is by copying the dvd to a HDD and connecting that to the USB-port. Playing mp4 and internetstreams is ok, even over the wireless LAN. I see there are lots of destinations for the stream in VLC but don't know which one to use. Tried HTTP to the IP address but that didn't work. Is this possible? I succeeded to use the "play with" option in MS Mediaplayer, but unfortunately this doesn't work on the DVD-player. I can stream to a file on a NAS but would like to do so directly to the player. While streaming to the NAS I do not succeed in getting the language/subtiltles right.

I am very sorry, but I don't think I can add very much more to my initial information. I installed Mezzmo and at least it is seen as a mediaserver by the box and it can play the DVD but again no possibility to select the right undertitle and soundtrack. On the net I found that the push video from WMP uses UDP. I tried VLC again and now I manage to setup a stream (UDP) that runs, at least the time is incrementing. However still no luck in seeing VLC as a media server on the box and it does not push the box into displaying like WMP does. I don't know on what location the stream is buffered, otherwise maybe I could direct the box to play that file. Looking in Process Explorer I couldn't find the file. I can look at which ports the box is listening. Sometime 10148, 10243 filling in these ports in HTTP / UDP does not lead to success. May be I should turn off the WMP media sharing service ? There are simply too many options for the informed amateur. The box is preprogrammed to stream from Facebook and Picassa, but you can't add an internet streaming source yourself. TIA for your help.
