MP4 - will NOT play. Help, please! [Youtube DASH]

I have some MP4 YouTube downloads (via Real Downloader) that are refusing to play in VLC, although I have an MP4 from a friend on Tumblr that plays just fine.
I'm an old PC'er with little tech knowledge and am getting real creased up trying to find an answer. My attempts to rename the files as FLV fail, and attempts at converting the files produce video only files, with no audio.
Wish I had hair to pull out!

Maybe because your file is using the DASH format:

Format : dash Codec ID : dash

VLC can't play those files yet.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.
