VLC can't read the audio on my iDVD disc!

I just burned my first DVD with iDVD (and it was kind of a struggle I might add), and it plays fine in Apple's DVD Player and MPlayerOSX, but in VLC (0.6.0 or 0.6.2) it plays with no audio. Other movie files play fine in VLC, so I assume it's not a settings issue (like "mute"). I really need this disc to work perfectly, because it's a favor for my boss and I'm making about 20 copies once I get it right. If there's any chance the disc is non-compliant, I want to fix it.

Does anyone have an idea what could cause this problem? Playing the VOBs directly from the disc (in VLC) also have no audio. I'm on a dual 1 ghz (quicksilver) G4 with Mac OS X 10.3.0 and 1GB of RAM. iDVD is 3.0.1

What does it report in the messages window?

nothing new appears in the Messages window when opening or playing the disc (from command-D open disc, btw)

That because it's only does that when you open or switch to that window. If we didn't do that, you could hardly play any file anymore, since scrolling text is a CPU hog on OSX.
