Streams instead of downloads.

there is a site i have been using to download videos but after i downloaded VLC whenever i click on the link to download any .avi files it will start to stream them using VLC instead of downloading them. any ideas on how to fix this?

This is not VLC this is your browser, set it to download files by default rather than to open them.
(Tools -> Options -> Applications in Firefox)
