How to play ape files in VCL player

I was so far able to play ape.-files with VLC player. For some unknown reasons, VLC player now opens and plays ape.-files - but no sound is being played. What could be the cause for such strange behaviour?

Does this mean that ape. files can't be played with VLC player for the moment?

Only some of them.
From my own experience the files created on Windows with the executable MAC.exe are playing fine whilst the files created through a third party app with the MACDll.dll library are not playing.

VLC Player doesn't play ape.-files properly only from version 2. Therefore, the solution goes like this:

- Un-install non-working version of VLC Player
- Download earlier version of VLC Player (eg. version 1.1.10 from http://download.videolan.org/vlc/1.1.10 ... -win32.exe)
- Install this version

et voilà...
