Cannot open a stream

Postby ImageJPEG » 20 Aug 2012 23:55

I cannot open a stream that I've started on another local computer of mine.

I'm trying to start a stream on my Linux box (Debian 64 bit Sid). I do not have a firewall running. On my other machine (MacBook Pro 13 inch (no firewall either)), I'm trying to open the stream with VLC. I keep getting an error about not being able to open the MRL.

I've even tried adding my MacBook's (static) IP address to my hosts.allow file on my Linux box just to make sure.

I should also mention that I try port scanning (on the machine trying to stream) and port 1234 is closed.

Code: Select all

nmap -p 1234 localhost
^^^^This is what I use to check it.

Code: Select all

Starting Nmap 6.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2012-08-20 17:00 CDT Nmap scan report for localhost (127.0.0.1) Host is up (0.000049s latency). PORT STATE SERVICE 1234/tcp closed hotline
^^^^That's what I get.
