Managing Music Library in VLC

Postby alexanderkmoore » 18 Aug 2012 02:34

Hello,

SuSE 11.2
VLC 2.0.2 Twoflower

My music folder is on a network drive on a Windows headless box
I have a shared folder on it.
I'm able to access and play my music in VLC through the network after mounting this share
I have enabled the media library in the Preferences section
My understanding is that I'm supposed to select Media Library, then right-click on the empty white pane and then select Add Directory.
I do so, and pick my music folder.
Now I see just the folder in the main pane (sorry, I'm not sure what the technical title of this view is)

When I double click on it (if I'm lucky) it will expand and show a good hundred or so artist folders
Sometimes it only shows a few or no folders at all and just a few MP3s that are in the root directory - maybe because it's 100 GB in size and is too big?
Anyways, back to the point

So I have my entire list of folders in the window
The problem is I have to double click to expand an artist and then double click to expand the album just to select a song to play.
What I'm trying to do is have a Windows Media Player type of view for my files
So I don't have to see the folders.
Just an alphabetical view of every MP3.
I can then alphabetize and sort by the "Artist metadata tag.

Thanks in advance for your help.
