Direct Show recorded file extension

Hi all

Is there any way to change the file type that vlc records it's direct show as?

Input is from an MS Lifecam Studio, res is fairly low with no audio. It currently records as AVI but this is a large file size and I would prefer something smaller.

VLC automatically select a format that can contain the input codecs. It won't affect the file size much anyway.

You need to transcode/convert otherwise.
