Cannot get subtitles to work at all

Postby Krenzathal » 18 Jul 2012 11:07

Hi all,

I've been using VLC for a good while now as it generally plays everything but I can not for the life of me figure out how to activate subtitles.

I have set everything up in Preferences/subtitles and I have chosen the correct subtitles track from the menu but absolutely noting happens. I thought I had it working but it turns out it was just displaying the media title of the file on startup and not the subtitles themselves.

I am currently trying to watch a movie (Godzilla 1954) that has a built in subtitles track and it appears in the subtitles menu as Track 1 [English] below 'Disable' but no matter how many times I select it, restart VLC, try another encoding or type 'eng' as my preferred language I get absolutely nothing displayed on the screen.

Just as a point I can't get .SRT files to work either. I make sure they are renamed the same as the movie file, load them in before hand then turn them on when I see the track but still noting is displayed.

This is extremely frustrating as I can't see what I'm doing wrong for such a simple function. Can anyone help or give me some settings that they know do work?

Thanks!

I'm using a desktop PC
Windows 7
2GB Ram
