How to transcode "as is" ?

Postby psychobilly » 17 Jul 2012 21:46

I'm sorry, I must be stupid, but I cannot find an answer to this.

I have an audio stream, and I want to record it at the same quality as it comes in, i.e. unchanged. How do I set the Streaming/Transcoding Wizard?

This is the stream location: http://174.123.20.131:8050/

I believe, don't check the transcode options for audio/video and just click Next for the format save options.

Ah! Thank you :-)

But what is the difference (if there is one) between not choosing any transcoding option and choosing the "Dummy" codec? Is that the same?

And what encapsulation and file extension do I choose? RAW and .mp3? Or do they make no difference? I want to process the resulting file in Audacity.

Regarding this case, selecting Dummy may work as well. I use another program for my transcoding, so I haven't test these options fully.

When looking at the Media Information for the stream in VLC, in indicates it's a mp3 stream so selecting mp3 would likely be best.

Thank you. What program do you use, and why not VLC?

@ psychobilly
It's easier to use the 'Record' button than mess with the Streaming/Transcoding Wizard.

When the station is playing in VLC...
Click 'View' > 'Advanced Controls'
Then use 'Record' button.
