VLC stretching 720x480

Postby ChuckTX » 11 Jul 2012 06:27

Why/ How does VLC know to stretch my 720x480 mkv, but not my same resolution mp4? Is there a flag in the header of the mkv that tells it, the same way the DVD tells the player to stretch it, that is not in the mp4 or something? The mkv was made using makemkv & then the mp4 was made using HandBrake from the mkv. This is really just a curiosity thing.

Thanks, Chuck

Videos can contain aspect ratio information. Handbrake can set videos as anamorphic aspect ratio in it's picture settings.
