VLC won't play some internet radio stations

Postby PeterMartinez » 15 May 2012 11:19

I cannot get VLC2.0.1 to play some internet radio stations which play OK on RealPlayer or WMP. What am I doing wrong? I append the message log for one of these, which is 24kb mono MP3.

Note: to prevent the "Too many urls" error-message, I have prefixed all urls except one with a * character.

This server seems not to allow any other player than Winamp, so you need to change the user agent of VLC but I think this feature is not available anymore for some reason.

Lotesdelere:

Thanks for your reply, but I CAN play that stream with Realplayer or Windows Media Player or FlashPlayer, and the website for that radio station shows options to use any of these (and Winamp). Also, there are other radio stations which I can play with VLC where the same "This stream requires Winamp" message appears. So I guessed that the message "This stream requires winamp" is not the problem.

VLC does receive MP3 data, but for some reason the server disconnects after a while. Why is anyone's guess.

Thanks Remi: When I tried it (see my log above), at the point in the log where the "main debug: starting pre-buffering" message appears, there is a long pause with no sign of incoming data from the internet then the "got disconnected" message. It looks like both ends of the connection are waiting for the other, until a time-out occurs.

Most 'shoutcast' servers are OK.

Thanks in advance...

Jean-Baptiste:

Can you say if 2.0.2 might fix the problem I originally described in this topic (maybe you can try the station I quoted). Can you tell me how to get 2.0.2? It is not offered as a download (yet?). I see a reference to 'Nightly builds' in which various files with '2.0.2' appear but I cannot figure out which of the files I can see in those directories I will need. I am using Windows XP.

Thanks
Peter M

Jen-Baptiste:

I am sorry, but if "Nope" is your reply to my last post then I would be grateful if you could give me a little more detail - Did 2.0.2 actually fix a bug in audio stream playback, and if so, how do I get 2.0.2.

Thanks

It does not fix the issue where some radios reject VLC.
