Same here. Seem that windows driver is the key.

I have the latest version of VLC on Windows 7 and the video keeps freezing after a few minutes of play. I have a 30-35 second video that plays continuesly, but it freezes after a few mintues... so I guess Windows 7 has not solved the problem. Any other suggestions.

Modifying the Caching Value from 300ms to 800ms got rid of the problem, thank you very much for the tip :-)
Hi there,
Is this the solution for the problem?
It happens also on Linux Ubuntu.
Or what are the settings for VLC (in Linux) to get rod of the problem?
Thank you in advance for the answer. :D

I was having issues just like described with .3gp files. I really wan't trying any other files besides mp4 and mkv, but 3gp had the frozen video issue. I simply went into the preferences under the input&codecs tab and checked the box that says "use GPU accelerated decoding". This seemed to fix my issue. Also, I found if that doesn't work try downloaded the cccp (combined community codec pack) during the installation make sure you click the link to installed the latest something - x codec. I forget what it was called, but I remember reading that someone else tried that and it worked.

Try another video output module:

My problem is almost like this problem but different. For me the video will play along with the audio, then both just stop but the timer (the thing that shows you how far into the video you are) keeps on going, until it hits a section of the video were everything starts up again for a few minutes then audio and video freeze again and the timer keeps on going.

Hi All,

even I use the version VLC 2.1.0-rc2.
I got the same problem when I try to play the live stream.
Is there any solution?

This happens with every video I shoot on my Samsung s3, which is recording in VLC format but until today I had the resulution set at 1280x 720. Just lowered it to 720x480 but that hardly seems a solution.

I have this problem with Android version of VLC (both regular and beta from the Google Play Store). Is there a filed bug for this? Here is a sample which demonstrates this bug: http://wikisend.com/download/361126/test.mp4

I am seeing this also with VLC 0.9.8 on Mac OSX 10.5.5.

The source material is ripped DVDs. If I just play the movie there is no freeze. But if I skip (shift-right) or use the keys for next/prev chapter then on some movies it might do the video-freezes-audio-plays-on thing. Other movies seem to never do it.

The location of a freeze is random - if I jump to a location and start skipping and get a freeze, trying again might skip right over that spot.

After a skip the playback may be jerky. If playback is smooth after a skip it will not freeze. If playback is jerky then it might freeze within 1-3 seconds, otherwise it continues jerky playback. If I skip again, start over - it might be smooth this time or jerky...

When video freezes it is has the appearance of demosiac junk, as though the decoder processed some garbage and some good data. The intended image can be recognized but it is badly smeared and blocky.

Whenever it freezes I can change the deinterlace setting and video starts playing again. I assume the video decoder resyncs correctly with input stream.

I was having the same problem, then i saw this thread and was able to fix it with some pointers mentioned here.

I'm still having this issue. I have tried to all of the suggestions on this discussion, but nothing seems to fix it.

I am running Windows 8, with VLC version 2.2.1.
I am trying to watch an m4v, I am not sure if the issue occurs with other file types.

Using VLC 2.2.4 on Windows 7.
I solved it using @Oleja's solution.
I increased Cache Values from 300 to 1000 using this: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 71#p445071
It's now working :D
