How do I not use a playlist?

How do I not use a playlist?

Postby pdxman1 » 07 Apr 2012 01:36

I just upgraded to VLC media player 2.0.1 and am having trouble with the playlist. I don't want a playlist. I just want to open a file, play it and when it ends, just have it stop. That was the behavior in the previous versions.

Now if I open a file and play it, it gets automatically added to the playlist. Then at the end, it starts playing again from the beginning. If I stop it and then play another file, when it ends, it starts playing the first file. And every file I play gets added to the playlist. If I delete the files it still tries to play them and I get an error message pop up. I've gone into tools->preferences and found the playlist section and unchecked all the boxes and it still behaves as I described. Is there any way I can get it not to use playlists at all or to get the behavior of previous versions?

Then, hide the playlist.

Then, hide the playlist.
What do you mean? I don't normally see the playlist - it just seems to be operating and I can't figure out how to stop it. I find that anything I've played gets added to it. I only see the playlist if I look at view->playlist.

It did stop automatically trying to play everything on the playlist for a while, but then it started doing it again. I checked the playlist settings again in tools->preferences and repeat all was checked even though I had unchecked everything and saved. So I unchecked it and saved, but still whenever a video ends, it trys to play everything on the playlist.

So if "hide the playlist" is the answer, can you tell me the specific steps to do so? If not, any other ideas? I'm trying to be as detailed as I can in describing the problem, but if you need more info on my settings or usage, let me know.

Well I wasn't using the playlist. And I would like to continue not using it, but I cannot figure out how. Something changed when I upgraded to the current version and I'd like to figure out what.

Anyone else seeing this? Anyone have any suggestions?

It was operating before, and is operating now. You cannot stop it.
You can hide it, like before, but you seem to not want that...
