Static on first 10 sec of song, Bose AE2, ONLY in VLC

Postby Alvaster » 26 Jul 2011 21:24

Alright, hopefully someone knows something. Here are the details, read carefully:

I am using Bose AE2 headphones. Just got them.
I play a song in VLC (any song), and for the first 10 seconds (counted, on every song), there is faint static in the background.
After the 10 seconds, the song plays normally, (amazing with these phones).
I played the same songs on WMP, browsed on youtube for music/videos, soundcloud, etc. ALL these other methods did NOT exhibit this static.
The headphones have no error, given other players/sites do not give off this static.

I don't know if it's a codec issue, or some bug in this new version, but the static for those 10 seconds is VERY annoying and though I could easily switch to WMP and listen to my music normally...it just sucks. So help me out guys!

Running on Windows 7. Nothing special to report, unless you need further deets or whatnot.

I have the exact same problem. I find that it doesn't matter whether I use different headphones or the computer's speakers, the static noise will still occur.

10 seconds is about right, the noise is very consistent. I also find that if you let an audio file run for a few seconds, pause it and start it again, the first 10 seconds will not have static, however it is very annoying to do this every time.

This is an extremely annoying issue that I would like to see resolved.

I run Windows 7 Ultimate.

I'm looking for a volunteer to (re)write the audio output module(s) for Windows.

I have the same problem with 1.1.11 (July 14 2011)

Windows 7 Home Premium

Foobar does not have this problem - tested same tracks.

It really freaked me out because I just installed my new DIY speakers and was checking every connection and polarity, etc... I had thought I made a mistake!!

I just chime in to say that I have the same problem, except that in my case the static noise can be heard up to 15-20 secs long. Also, it happens every time when I pause then re-start the playback. I use Windows 7 32-bit, but I'm not sure if this issue is related to the version of the OS. I tried to run VLC in different compatibility modes, but it didn't help unfortunately.

I hope this problem can be solved in the near future, because I'd love to use VLC as my default audio player (I love VLC, because it is small, easy to use, plays all formats, etc), but with this serious playback issue, it is just not acceptable for me... :(

Happens for me ONLY on Windows machines. No issue on Linux or Mac OS X systems. Seems to happen on any codec (Tested with MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and WAV)
