Run VLC Player from Flash Drive to a HD TV?

I'm looking for a solution to run a short video from a USB drive to a HD TV. Once the USB drive is inserted I want the video autorun then constantly loop. Do any of you know if this is possible with VLC player?

It might be possible depending on the operating system. There is no generic portable solution for that.
