Why it is not possible to change subtitle position?

Every video player normally has that option..
I dont see whats the point to have subs INSIDE the picture.
Its is very very frustrating.

Ok, but why not have an EASY option to change subtitle position ??

Users have to decide what is best for them, not programmers.

It's hard because subtitle blending makes no sense out of the picture area.

Users are free to pay programmers to do what they want, otherwise they don't get to decide anything.

It is possible to define hotkeys to move subtitles up and down. I think they are undefined by default. I use Shift+Up/Down for Subtitle position up/down and this is also my suggestion for developers to predefine so in next release, please. To move subtitles under the picture a black pad must be added first - increased height by adding empty lines at the bottom. It is possible to set padding in video preferences (sure in VLC 1.2.0).
It should not be very difficult to create a padding tool according to the cropping tool (Alt+c, ...) to adjust picture "on the fly". Moving subtitles under the picture then could also automatically increase/decrease padding. VLC needs to become more user friendly at least for local playback of media files. Thanks.

Well I am not a programmer. I am just user who brings some ideas to improve VLC as I like it. Some users prefer to watch subtitles under or above playing movie in fullscreen mode. Dual subtitles would be a dream. Especially if monitor is 4:3 format and modern video is in widscreen format then there are always black bars above and under the picture. As I say in VLC 1.2.0 the picture area can be adjusted by "cropadd" Video scaling filter (Are there two Video scaling filters in the list? Probably a bug.) - Padd - Pixels to padd bottom. This will be subtitle area. After saving of settings and restarting VLC, subtitles are at the bottom of picture in added black pad. Why not to improve VLC as all better players supporting subtitles can move them up and down bordered by monitor screen and not only by movie picture area? Can be some hotkeys assigned to "Padd" filter to adjust it "on the fly"?

In VLC 1.2.0 loading subtitles cause choppy playback when moving mouse in fullscreen mode. It also happens if there are no subtitles loaded and a hotkey for moving subtitles up or down was pressed.

ALL other players can do that, but vlc cant ..
Can you just copy-paste that miracle "subtitle under picture" source code that other programs have ?

As I said, if it were as easy as copying the code from somewhere else, it'd had been done years ago.

Software development does not work that way. And with a very small team of hobbyists, there are plenty of higher priority items, like keeping up with new codecs, new hardware and fixing bugs. This stuff is not unlikely to be implemented someday, but whining about it or pointing at other software is not going to expedite the process. Writing code or hiring developers is how you speed things up.
