Hi all, wondering if someone can help with a playback problem I'm having with VLC.
I have a bunch of videos created every week, exported from Final Cut Express HD as mov/mp4 with interlaced dvsd video and pcm audio (full quality DV video as I understand).
The videos play OK in Quicktime, and also play fine using mplayer on linux. Attempting local playback in VLC 1.1.11 on Windows 7/XP, MacOS Snow Leopard, or any recent Linux distro produces stuttery or choppy video playback. In VLC, the videos play at approx 3-4 FPS (audio is ok).
At the moment, as a workaround, I'm using mencoder to transcode them to a format that works with VLC, but seeing as both mplayer and VLC are ffmpeg based I would have thought playback of the original files in VLC would work just as well.
Here is some test material (first 2 links are for reference only; the last one is the problem child):
Original test sample:
http://members.amnet.net.au/~amcowok/fi ... S-720p.avi (18MiB)
Converted to x264/aac/mp4 for import into Final Cut:
http://members.amnet.net.au/~amcowok/fi ... S-720p.mp4 (20MiB)
THIS is a sample of a video that has problems with VLC:
Final Cut exported video (note - FC has stupidly deinterlaced it from 576i in the process, so its no longer 50FPS, only 25)
http://members.amnet.net.au/~amcowok/fi ... export.mp4 (87MiB)
Any Clues?
After some serious searching, I've found quite a few people with the same problem, although not articulated well enough for anyone to begin to understand or help. If we can solve this problem, I can reply to quite a few threads with the solution (on this board, and others).
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to look.
