vlc 0.8.2 fails at OpenGL output

Postby jacoby » 27 Jun 2005 17:35

In the final .8.2 version of VLC, OpenGL support is unusable. In .8.2-test3, it was fine.

I have my computer set up with one moniter and the output mirrored on a tv screen. With DirectX, video will only play on one screen at a time, so I use OpenGL. I tried GDI, but wasnt very happy with it.

Right now OpenGL appears to be only be showing the very center of the video, or something. Its actually worse on some files than others...

example: (paused the video, clicked snapshot and did a print screen)
OpenGL output: http://jacoby.completelyfreehosting.com ... /error.bmp

Snapshot of same frame: http://jacoby.completelyfreehosting.com ... lcsnap.png

I guess I'm on test3 for a while.

oh, forgot to mention:
tried clearing preferences, didnt help. still works with test3, so its not my computer, and this particular file works with test3, so its not the file.

also the look of the output is not consistant.

some videos it will play a badly distorted section of the video, some it plays like this.

and it doesnt look like there is any important console output:
main debug: control type=1
main warning: computed PTS is out of range (540219070), clearing out
main warning: timing screwed, stopping resampling
main warning: output PTS is out of range (540220408), clearing out
main warning: input PTS is out of range (540219149), trashing
main warning: computed PTS is out of range (540197987), clearing out
main debug: audio output is starving (203247), playing silence
main warning: output date isn't PTS date, requesting resampling (-41078)
main warning: buffer is 41079 in advance, triggering downsampling
main warning: resampling stopped after 7844391 usec (drift: -3546)
main debug: control type=1

the example was an OGM video, however all other tested filetypes also fail, as do different encodings.

edit:
tested xvid, div3, dx50 and dvd output, all fail, but not with decoder consistant results.

some xvid outputs lines, like the example, some output small sections

edit again, also, I think the output is flipped upside down

I think i know what's causing this...
Man OpenGL really SUCKS. It just behaves differently on each and every platform/graphics card.

Any suggestions then?

Is this something I could possibly fix on my end with tweaking the graphics settings?

Is this something I should expect to see working in a nightly build, or should I just stick with .8.2-test3?

Do you have an alternate suggestion for my video display?

This topic is for a 4 year old version of VLC. Please explain you post in more detail, and make a new topic if you feel necessary.
