MKV?

I can't seem to play mkv files with vlc, when I open the file nothing happens.

You gave us absolutely no information at all.

What is your OS ?
What is your hardware ?
Which VLC version are you using ?
Where is the messages log ?
What is the file ? Where is a short sample showing the problem ?
