Stopping VLC desktop stream

Hi,

new to streaming here. Was testing out some stuff with VLC streaming. I was wondering if the stream stops as soon as VLC is closed? Or does it continue to play or restart as soon as VLC is started again? Or does it only stream when I open a Network Stream?
