VLC media player 0.8.2-test2 beta release

OS X Shoutcast Meta

Postby chrjohns » 16 Jun 2005 17:49

Hi:

I have been playing with 0.8.2-test2 (OS X) and it looks great. I see that meta-information is showing up in the info window ("Now Playing"). Is it possible to have this info show up in the main player window?

Thanks.

subtitle opacity

Postby gargoyle » 16 Jun 2005 18:20

You really need to fix the subtitles. They don't show up clearly and overlap with the background colors. They were not like that in the pre 0.8.2 tests. If you are in front of the computer screen it's still okay because you are close to the monitor (but not as clear as before), but output it on tv and it becomes hell to read.

Besides that this is and will always be the best player around.

I can't play DVD's on this. I get audio, but just a blue video.

I was very excited to upgrade to tiger. When I did, I did not realize that WMP and VLC would have issues. Made me angry because I use VLC 80% of the time while at work. Anyway I tried 0.8.2-test2 and looks to work OK. However, when I play a DVD the video is jumpy. Sound is OK though. I can use 0.8.1 and video is very crisp but no audio. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future. As for now I will go back to Panther.

A few more points

Postby Guest » 18 Jun 2005 21:31

Some issues with the best player in the world vlc-0.8.2-test2-win32.exe
1) Only video but no audio while playing .bin files
2) Only video but no audio while playing .mp4 files
3) Audio is intermittent while playing some .avi video files
4) The video pixelizes during a fast action scene and also if I change from normal GUI to Extended GUI
5) I am not sure if it is supposed to play .rmvb files. Anyway it doesn't play those even though I have Realone player installed.
6) I am not sure if it is supposed to play .asx files. Anyway it doesn't play those even though I have Windows Media Player version 10 player installed.

Thaks to everbody involved in making this wonderful program.

Opend a .ts stream,
moved the windows to the left screen,
doubled the size, switched back to normal size, clicked the "maximize" button: kernel panic.

It might be the Radeon driver, but unlikely the card itself, since I replaced it. It might be possible that VLC player had an error, but crashing the OS ( I needed 3 restarts to get the machine running again ) by simply playing a Video ?

Somehow, this bug in the ( OS ? ), and the former Azureus bug make me remembering a little the days of OS9. Great computer, great OS, but only if you run a very small and tested set of Applications.

Postby johnclubvec » 19 Jun 2005 02:26

For fun I tried to use skins. Got a segmentation fault. Please post if you want additional information.
Here, I think, are the relevant lines from:

VLC realy needs a way to save TV Channels! so we dont need to fine tune every channel we wanna watch and lose it when we close! :)

0.8.2-test3 version

Postby spyrmac » 21 Jun 2005 19:08

Hello,

I use VLC since I switched to the Macintosh. It's definitely the ultimate player on this platform.

I'm still under Mac OS 10.3.9 only because of VLC.

I know that the 0.8.2-test2 version is correctly running on Tiger, but it has the green border line bug, which is very annoying for someone watching a lot of movies like me !

And I know that this particular bug has been identified and corrected...

Don't flame me for my impatience... I don't ask for the final 0.8.3, I just would like to know if there is any planned release date for the next 0.8.2-test3 beta version. If not, it's not a big deal... :)

Keep the good work. Regards...

0.8.2-test3 will be released in less than 2 hours and we hope to ship the final on Saturday or Sunday this week.

That's due to the fact that one of our servers is down, so there are no Debian, Win32, WinCE and ActiveX nightlies atm. The server will come back later today. You can find the nightlies for OSX here anyway. The nightlies for BeOS are available as well, but I don't have the link by hand.

i'm having a problem building test3 with a unicode build of wxGTK. it stops with the following error:

wizard.cpp:1088: error: invalid cast from type 'const wxCharBuffer' to type 'char*'

i havent tried any older 0.8.2 test versions, but 0.8.1 used to build fine on a unicode wxGTK.
