VLC will not play youtube videos

This may seem like an old topic, but it is not.

I've just downloaded VLC today, and copied several Youtube URLs into the Open Network Stream box, and hit Play. The URL will appear in the title bar, but then flashes off, and the video never plays.

I have increased the More Options cache, but it does not help.

My version is VLC 1.1.11. I'm using the latest iteration of Opera Browser with XP SP3.

What am I doing wrong?

Reallistically, this will break "every so often" as the YouTube page layout gets updated.
