Fedora Core 4

Postby leww37334 » 18 Jun 2005 13:29

Has anyone loaded VLC media player 0.8.1.1 with Fedora Core 4 yet? If so could you please post how you did it here? I tried installing the RPM per the website instructions, that didn't work, so I tried using the --nodeps option, that didn't work. I had the program working under FC3 but now it is broken. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THKS

As far as I know, our current RPMs are not compatible with FC4. We will provide usable packages with the furthcoming 0.8.2-release, which should be ready within the next 2 weeks.

I eagly await the new release for fedoar core 4. I had some luck (hours later) getting the FC3 version of vlc to install, but with poor results. This has been my favorite video player, for all computer platforms. Please keep up the good work, you guys rock!!!!

Freshrpms has working vlc

I'm running FC4 for a week or so and found that the easiest way to install the latest VLC was through freshrpms which you could find here: http://stentz.freshrpms.net/rpm.html?id=335.

However, it would be much easier if you installed the yum addon of fresh rpms from here:http://ayo.freshrpms.net/ (go to the yum section, download, and install the rpm). Finally, go to the shell and issue the command "yum install *videolan*" (you have to be root). This would check all the dependencies of vlc and install them all.

I hope this helps.

Hi :)
I am running FC4
I used the rpm's from fresh rpm's and had som trouble with the dependencies.

My solution was to remove VLC and add the http://rpm.livna.org/ to yum sources
like this:
rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS ... noarch.rpm

and then as root in terminal do:
yum install videolan-client

what if you don't have internet access?

Then you have to figure out what VLC depends on. Download all the packages to a folder and do as root:
rpm -U *.rpm
