Streaming around 5000 MTS files

Postby memphisblues » 11 Apr 2011 07:44

Hi!
I'm currently working on a movie project. I am filming 24/7 with a Canon HF R28 for about 40days.
The canon is capable of recording about 12hours of 1080p footage @ 24Mbit/s (24p framerate)
On every 64Gb SDXC card (about 6hours of material) there is 31 MTS files @2.05GB
In the end I will have about 5000 of these MTS files stored in about 80 DMGs on External Firewire 800 drives.

Is VLC capable of streaming a playlist of 5000 files? I want to show the material on a TV in real time, 40 days of constant video.

I have heard that VLC might crash if I try to play them locally because of some memory leak, thats why I'm going for streaming them to another MAC.

Streaming from a Mac Pro Nahelem quad core, via firewire 800 (if possible) to a mac mini 2010. outputting via HDMI to a 1080p LCD TV.

Best

Daniel

VLC usually memleaks when the input has issues.
And yes, VLC should manage a playlist of 5000 items.
