VLC stream broken after 35 minutes

Postby Szoke » 01 Apr 2011 08:56

Hi Everyone,
Context: I am using an Axis IP Camera (CamIP HTMP) to follow bird nests. This camera is a web server, and also supports two rtsp streams.
VLC is running on both a linutop 4 (linux ubuntu + gnome) and on Windows 7 Pro 64 bits.
Target: read one rtsp stream and save it into a file on a 32 GB USB disk.
Codec: H264
On linux: I start VLC with: vlc -vvv rtsp://192.168.1.200 --sout="#std{access=file{append},mux=ts,dst=/media/SOLON/srce_%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S.avi"
Note : I have tried --rtsp-session-timeout=-1 and --rtsp-tcp, to no avail
Everything works fine, the network load is about 200 kB/s (depending in the camera configuration of course)
But progressively the network load increases up to approx 400 kB/s and suddenly the stream strops, and I get a VLC error "No data received during 10 s EOF ?" and VLC stops.

On Windows: I start VLC with: vlc -vvv --rtsp-session-timeout=-2 --rtsp-tcp rtsp://192.168.1.200/HD --sout="#std{access=file{append},mux=ts,dst=F:/srce.avi"
The %Y-%m... doesn't seem to be supported !
And the same behavior happens: recording is OK, starting around 1 % of the network capacity, increasing up to 3 % and then it stops suddenly.
In both case, the recording lasts around 35 minutes. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes less. The final file size can be between 200 and 600 MB.

I have tried all possible camera settings: CBR, VBR, all resolutions from 320*240 to 800*600, all image qualities, etc. to no avail.
The most frustrating is that the camera manufacturer delivers an Active X running properly in Firefox for very long periods, recording the stream in files as expected. But this project requires very low consumption, highly efficient computers that will run for month in the woods, and I absolutely want to keep the linutop 4 computers with Ubuntu for that task !

Does someone else encountered such a problem ?
Thanks a lot in advance for any help !

maybe a camera bug with the rtsp stream ?
did you try a firmware upgrade, or contact the manufacturer ?
