chapter support in webm

Postby ugtar » 29 Mar 2011 21:16

Hello, I understand that webm is a subset of functionality in mkv. At the moment, it is undecided if the webm format will support chapters (http://www.webmproject.org/code/specs/c ... /#chapters). I know that vlc at the moment does support chapters with mkv. So, my question is, if I create a webm file and specify chapters using the format for mkv, will vlc handle the chapter information?

My use case is, I'd like to create webm files for use in the browser, but I would like to be able to take advantage of mkv functionality for people who want to look at those files with vlc without having to create two different video files.

Thanks!

It should work. I mean, VLC does not care whether it's WebM or plain normal/plain old Matroska; it's the same code.
I don't know how the WebM/HTML5 browsers will react though; I assume they'd ignore the extra metadata. Best is to try and see.
