Whenever "a/52 over s/pdif" is enabled (and that means I am pausing a mpeg playback that has a DD AC3 5.1 ch audio track), I get identification in my a/v receiver that it is receiving digital dolby 5.1 data. The sound, however, warbles with an internal feedback loop, or something that sounds like it, that grows worse, like an echo.
If I select 5.1 output, I get the usual downmix, identified in my receiver as 2 ch pro-logic.
The same thing happened with a WDC audio card that I replaced with the Audigy, hoping to solve the problem, so it's not specific to Audigy. Audigy is running in passthrough bit-accurate mode.
The press release for VLC 0.6.1 said"fixed 5.1 support for audigy"; not clear whether that meant over s/pdif.
I am on VLC 0.8.1.
WMP will play this correctly, as will BS Player, but I need .ts playing too, with 5.1, so I want VLC. The problem I have is with all filetypes that have multichannel audio. (I have no .dts movie clips to test at the moment, but I will try to see if the problem is specific to AC3.
Help appreciated!
