Is it possible to play only part of file?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Is it possible to play only part of file?

Postby WietsE » 24 Jan 2011 08:57

Hi,

It might not be the brightest question but I am really hoping to be able to specify somewhere in VLC only to play part of an .avi file, like for example 00:03:45 to 00:23:12. It is only 20 minutes of a 120 minute film I would like to show during a presentation.

Is it possible to do this within VLC without the need to edit the file? Hope to hear from someone.

I started VLC with -H for advanced help options and it seems you can use --start-time=xx and --stop-tome=yy to specify the start end stop time in seconds for the video you want to play.

For instance you could create a shortcut with the following Target:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" D:\video.avi --start-time=225 --stop-time=1392
