Streaming over a firewire connection in VLC

Hi all,
I just wanted to confirm that VLC can handle displaying a live stream acquired from a firewire capture card. The full setup, in case your interested, would sending a stream from a sony HVRHD1000U camera using its Firewire output (an HDV/DV 4 pin connector) and capturing it on a firewire card that would then be displayed by VLC.

Are there any problems or hiccups I might run into if I attempt to do my live streaming in this manner?
