1080p hd vid freeze up

when im playing some hd files that are like 8 gig big the vid freezes, and pixalaites.
alice in wonderland is a movie that i cant play poperly. soome work just fine with out any problems
while playing the movie i ran performce and reliabilaty and my cpu whent up as high as 70% but stil vid was chopy.
vlc is all uptodate???

intel duo core 2.0
4g ram
with independant graphics card
