VLC for IPAD

Doesn't play .rmvb files. Don't even listed. So what files can be play on VLC for IPAD ?
Do I have to convert it to mp4 ?
Once uploaded, how to delete it off from my IPAD ?
Remove VLC will remove data ?
After removing VLC, my applications size is 0.6GB but after VLC application size become 1.2GB.
VLC apps size on ipad is 600MB ?

VLC on iPad should be able to play virtually any kind of file it can play on a Mac or Windows computer. rmvb isn't supported right now. There is no conversation necessary. Note that most HD videos won't play on the iPad due to its limited resources.

You can delete files stored on the iPad using iTunes. This functionality isn't part of VLC for iPad as of yet.

As soon as you remove VLC from your iPad, all the files you synced to its application folder using iTunes will be gone as well. You'll be notified about this if you attempt to do so.

VLC's size on iPad is 9 MB. It's storage requirements are as big as the movies you want to play though.

Did check for iOS specific forum - but found this.

On iPad - failed to play (quits after about 10 seconds) DVB-T Transport Stream files (tried both an audio-only and audio+video - both from BBC).

I'm seeing the same problem with transport stream files. The program quits before showing the thumbnail. The only way to recover is to remove the file in iTunes.

Hi All!!

Try rename rmvb to something like filename.rmvb.avi and load it into your ipad!!! it works!!!!!!

WMV works!!!

Rename filename.wmv to filename.wmv.avi.

Think any file supported by VLC desktop version, can work just as well with simple rename to avi ext.
Please try rename other non-supported format and test, do post the result. Thank you!

Great news - the recently released update now does place .ts transport stream files (at least my test one that would not work with previous version)

Two things that I'd like to see:

1) Better support for HD video. I haven't even attempted to try 1080p, but even 720p won't run. You claim that it's the iPad's "limited resources" that's to blame, yet I tried a 720p .mp4 video, which runs flawlessly thru the iPad's native "Videos" app, yet simply freezes when I try to run it in the VLC app. I can even smoothly skip thru the video and zoom in and out using the Videos App. Seems to me that would be a clear indication that the VLC player isn't optimized as well as it could be, and blaming it on Apple just seems a little lame.

2) The ability to choose your own "screen cap" for use in the video listing. The app seems to choose a random frame from the video. It's not the first frame of the video, nor is it the same frame used in the Windows thumbicon, so not sure where it's getting it and/or if it can be changed.

1) Video app has access to hardware decoder, which we don't. Because Apple keeps the API closed. Blaming Apple is probably right.

Comments elsewhere about someone making a GPL protest - as in GPL and AppStore not good partners.
Hopefully will not result in app being pulled or even worse killed on existing installs.

Wait, wait! Now (Nov 2010), you can also click on the edit button (top right of VLC bar) and then select the video file you want deleted by clicking on the x at the top left of the file icon. This way you can delete it after you view it.
