Stop External Volume Control

Can someone please tell me if it possible to stop my external volume control wheel controlling VLC's volume settings?

hey, I just registered to ask this question.

seriously, it's annoying. is there no way to dissociate the computer's volume control button/wheel from changing the volume? every other hotkeyesque thing on the player is changeable.
