No sound goes to my tv

Hi,

I have been trying to play videos in mkj and avi files from my computer to my samsung HDTV. I have connected my computer to my tv using a hdmi cable. Now for some strange reason I get video but no sound. I was playing around with settings and after a while I found that sound was going to my tv, just not using vlc player, I can use realplayer and everything works fine (except for not playing mkj files). Is there a way to fix it? Why doesn't sound go from my ASUS Xonar DS through my Sparkle gts 250 to my tv? Any ideas? I have been using vlc version 1.0.3 on windows 7 64 bit. I will try to upgrade to vlc 1.1.2 shortly, but all versions of vlc player after 1.0.3 have crashed during playing!

Please Help, I love vlc player and don't want to go back to realplayer, but If I can't fix this problem then I will have no other choice!
