jump to playlist item

Hello there,
I have had a search and couldn't find anything, so apologies if this has been dealt with.
I need to use VLC for an art installation. I need to move back and forward through the playlist items when a switch is made (I am using n and b on a keyboard controller).
I do really need the facility to have a hotkey stroke to return to the first item on the playlist.
I have looked long and hard and can't see anything. The bookmarks just seem to work within items.
Please fogive me if it is obvious, and I am being obtuse.
Does anyone have any ideas please.
