Quality Issue

Postby wfj » 14 Jul 2010 04:31

I'm using VLC 1.1.0, and I'm experiencing some interesting artifacting.

In darker and softer scenes a lot of distortion can appear. The image will look very clear for a moment, then slowly get more blocker in certain areas, looking almost as if some areas of the image aren't refreshing as fast as others. At a seemingly regular interval the image will then seem to reset, and be very sharp again, then slowly start to get blockier in the hazy or dark areas.

In general I've been encoding high quality m4v files with [name of software deleted], whose settings I have spent a LOT of time fooling with. I like VLC's options for viewing, and when since I've had problems I've tested the files with QuickTime X, QuickTime 7 Pro, and iTunes. I don't see the blocking effect with the others applications, but the image is never as clear as it is (in the good moments) with VLC.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks a ton!

I forgot to mention that I've also tried the latest 1.1.1 nightly build, and on 2 different computers (both macs on Snow Leopard) but had the same issue.
