H.264 Transport Stream with B-Frames error recovery

Postby saker » 01 Jul 2010 19:57

I have a h.264 transport stream containing b-frames which the vlc player does not recover from packet loss. I can simulate packet loss by disconnecting my ethernet cable for a split second. I've noticed that h.264 video without b-frames recovers on the next i-frame. With the b-frame stream, the video corruption continues until vlc is restarted. I've seen this behavior on multiple versions of vlc (currently version 1.1.0) and on both the windows and debian platforms. I see this behavior from streams from a Tandberg encoder and our own in house streamer. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Much thanks in advance.
