Good point... what's with the crack speak ??? (9uick 0p3n fi13) ???

I'm happy there's a new update but it sure as hell isn't easy to use when you aren't able to read the menus and preferences.

I know exactly why they would do that and if you think about it for a minute you'll know too.

I can see the funny point.... but it is still annoying! ;)

Hope they are releasing the proper version tomorrow... or please tell us how to turn it off! :P

If this was an April Fool's Joke I really don't appreciate it. I just downloaded the "upgrade" to my MAC and also the version to a PC and find it a real pain to see what happened.

What Builds do I use to replace this mess or will there be a general fix to this? (If I use the builds, what do I do?)

the real joke: 0.8.1

Postby joker » 03 Apr 2005 15:39

VLC 0.8.1337 is a joke?
Well, shouldn't be especially when you have the real joke 0.8.1 with so many problems(as a DVD player).
Why is this such a nervous program when playing DVDs? I mean whenever there is a minor problem in DVD or vlc thinks there is one it stops?
Anyway,I have to acknowledge one thing--besides being a free and adware free program--about 0.8.1: You never get bored with this. Brings color to your dull life. Because it treats every dvd as a unique one. "Will it start this time?", "How can I make it start playing? Through menus or the film itself", "When it will stop?" etc, etc...

Never mind the menus -- does it normally function like this?

I had the good luck to download this version as my first trial of VLC. I could put up with the joke menus, but is it supposed to display the video twice (side by side) and in strange inverted colours? If it always appears like this then I won't bother with the program at all any more.

the double display and inverted colors is most likely due to an error in you vlc settings (you must have enabled the clone and invert filters). Just use the reset button and it should go away.

Huhuhu, that's a cool April's fool joke ^^ Even if we are the third, you got me with it, I didn't even notice the 1337 version ^^ Anyway I've found the win version by browsing the ftp and I've downloaded it, just for the fun ^^

"Number of clones" in Preferences, Video, Filters is permanently set to 2. I can't save any changes. The "Reset All" button in Preferences doesn't change anything. I guess somebody accidentally or deliberately crippled this "0.8.1337" release (actually 0.8.2-svn) as well as changing the menus.

All OK now

Postby NevilleR » 04 Apr 2005 01:03

I have downloaded version 0.8.1 now and this seems to work fine. It even has a Play button instead of a Bomb!

april's videolan.org day

Postby joker » 05 Apr 2005 16:54

Let me see if I understand this: The videolan.org site, for days now, brags about some new and flawless version of 0.8.1 but provides...no links for downloading 0.8.1337 if it ever exists.

The site for example doesn't say " you know what we have had some problems with this new version and trying to resolve..."

The site doesn't say " oh you know what, it was an April fools joke" there is no such 0.8.1337 thing.

The site just displays some...deleted link. No explanation.

And nobody is talking in the forum.

Either I am fool and missing something or there is something wrong.

the videolan home page does mention
NOTE: Look at the posting date before downloading this version.

I am not much for april fools jokes. I didn't get the whole date thing. I thought it was reffering to checking the date on the file downloaded to make sure you got the new version. I actually thought there was a new version and was wondering why I had to dig to try and get it.

Any ideas on when we will see a new package/build?

I am considering trying out the nightly builds. Do I just unzip the content to the directory 0.8.1 installed to? Window.

we still need to fix hotkeys under windows and audio output under mac os x. Once that is done, we will release a -test1 version so you can try it out and tell us what bugs you encounter.

you can also test nightly builds : http://vthr.videolan.org/~videolan . These build (might) contain many bugs. But testing them also helps us in the developement process.
