Is there a a way to configure VLC to automatically always show subtitles when watching videos?
64bit VLC in Win 10 Pro, and Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.0.

You can tell it to show the subtitles of one language in the preferences.

Thanks for the reply, but to be honest, I went through every single option in preferences and found no language settings. Could you point the way? Thanks in advance.

I am using version 1.0.5 for Windows and the Help page is not clear, as well as the instruction has an incorrect reference to the steps to be taken. I am referring to the Advanced settings under Input\Codecs. I would like all films to automatically display English subtitles (if they exist). I would really appreciate the guidance for a newbie.
